Help Girls Inc. of Orange County girls reach their full reading potential with the nonprofit’s latest online fundraiser, Dads for Daughters: Invest in Her Future! This month-long fundraiser raises funds to support Girls Inc.’s Literacy Lab, a program that strengthens girls’ literacy skills and attitudes towards reading and ensures they do not fall behind academically. Due to COVID-19, young girls across the country had their school years cut short. Due to this, leading educational experts expect an average loss of 30 percent of the typical yearly gains in reading. This statistic is likely greater for children that have limited resources, are under stress, and who live in poverty. Literacy is one of the greatest indicators of future success. If a child falls behind and does not catch up by fourth grade, they are already set on a track to dropout. The Literacy Lab at GIOC prepares its students to reach the critical grade level in reading and strengthens their literacy skills through lessons in reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics and more. In a time that’s full of unknowns, reading books provides solace to these at-risk girls. As a result of attending GIOC’s Literacy Lab programs, 97% of participants felt they were better at reading and 95% of parents/caregivers observed increased reading confidence in their daughters. To sustain these amazing results via a variety of online offerings, Girls Inc. of Orange County needs your support. Donations from this online fundraiser will help the organization improve its virtual Literacy Lab programs and will help Girls Inc. girls to reach their full potentials. Plus, to know that you’ve changed the life of an at-risk child is priceless. The Dads for Daughters: Invest in Her Future online fundraiser is happening now through Tuesday, June 30.
