    About Us

    The Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) provides solid waste and wastewater collection services in the city of Costa Mesa, as well as a small portion of the city of Newport Beach and unincorporated Orange County. CMSD was formed in 1944 under the Sanitary District Act of 1923 and serves a population of approximately 116,700. The District is responsible for residential trash collection and transmittal to a recycling facility for recycling and disposal, along with collection and transmission of liquid waste to the Orange County Sanitation District for treatment and disposal.
