Become a Girl Boss with Girls Inc. of Orange County: Virtual Smart-Ups Summer Program

As many summer camps are being cancelled, girls across Orange County are looking for fun ways to safely interact with their friends and learn new skills this summer. Luckily for them, Girls Inc. of Orange County, is virtually hosting its popular summer program, Smart-Ups, for all aspiring girl bosses in grades 3 through 6! The camp will be held for one hour each morning (Monday through Thursday) on an online learning platform called Canvas. During this time, participants will engage with their peers and facilitators in a supportive and energetic environment while learning how to “save” a variety of failing businesses. The girls will participate in various independent learning activities that support the overall program goals and guide the participants to become savvy, elementary business entrepreneurs. The sessions will be broken up as follows: 30 minutes learning an essential business-saving skill followed by 30 minutes in a breakout session with their respective sub-group. The Summer 2020 Smart-Ups program concludes with a virtual business pitch event, like “Shark Tank,” on Wednesday, July 8 from 10am to 11am in which participants show the transformation their business underwent in hopes of gaining investors and capital. One of the investors and special guests will be Vikki Vargas, NBC4 Orange County Bureau Chief. Recognized for her versatility and journalistic integrity, Vargas has covered a number of local, national, and international stories while at NBC4 and is sure to encourage all of the program’s young girls to follow her dreams.
