105th Annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Continuing its 105-year tradition of hosting a candlelight service for the community on Christmas Eve, First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa invites the public to attend on Sunday, December 24th at 4:30pm at 420 West 19th Street. Having completed a recent demolition project, the church expanded its parking lot from a mere 19 spaces to almost 70 - just in time for the Christmas Eve service. “Over the past year, we’ve been working hard to renovate the property to create an inclusive space where more people can attend,” says Pastor Sarah Heath, who was appointed as the church’s senior pastor in 2016. “The expansion of our parking lot is just one of the ways that we’re opening our arms wide to the community.” Although First UMC of Costa Mesa gathers each Sunday at 10am, the community candlelight service is an event that has become a yearly tradition that many look forward to experiencing with family, friends, and the surrounding community. “We see the candlelight service as a chance to worship with our surrounding community,” says Heath. “There’s something powerful about gathering in a building that’s almost 90 years old and singing Silent Night while surrounded by the light of candles. It makes the ordinary sacred.” Sunday, December 24th at 4:30pm. 420 West 19th Street in Costa Mesa. Free event - no ticket required. Children are welcome, but childcare is not provided.
