              Description

Explore Merrimac Way on Saturday, April 21st from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. to experience pop-up street improvements while enjoying free family-friendly activities, music, prizes and more! Check out the different ways these improvements will make Merrimac Way safer for all street users. Invite your friends and RSVP on Facebook! Explore Merrimac is open to all ages and experience levels. This event gives residents and visitors a chance to try out temporary street improvements and provide feedback on what features you would like to see become permanent, including: • Examples of three protected bike lane options, making Merrimac Way safer for everyone. 1. A fun and innovative delineator in the first protected bike lane features shrubbery that will draw attention to the safety of a protected bike lane. Buffered bike lanes are a great way to provide comfortable riding room between bicyclists and motorists. 2. Repurposed materials will serve as a creative boundary between bicyclists and vehicle traffic in the second protected bike lane where a creative graphic will also reimagine the buffer zone in a colorful way. 3. The third protected bike lane will feature reflective pavement markers, providing a visible divider between bikers and drivers. • A seating zone including chairs, tables, and umbrellas providing a space to relax, catch up with your neighbors, meet new friends, and take in the excitement. The day will be packed with festivities and programming for the entire family, including: • Food available for purchase from food trucks from Curbside Bites • A bike rodeo with a safety obstacle course from The Cyclist • Free electric bike demonstrations provided by The Electric Bike Company • Free bike repair stations courtesy of Two Wheels One Planet and Barcelo Bicycles • Music from KOCI Radio 101.5 FM • And so much more! Explore Merrimac is located along Merrimac Way between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road. The programming hub will be located in the middle of the event route on the northern side of Merrimac Way at Orange Coast College Parking Lot E. Come experience what these changes feel like and share your feedback with the City of Costa Mesa on these potential street improvements. Visit the event website for more information. Explore Merrimac is brought to you by the City of Costa Mesa, Orange Coast College, Orange County Transportation Authority, Clean Transportation Funding - MSRC and SCAG’s Go Human Campaign. Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization, representing six counties, 191 cities and more than 18 million residents. SCAG undertakes a variety of planning and policy initiatives to plan for a livable and sustainable Southern California now and in the future.
