              Description

              Introduction to Podcasting
              This course covers the equipment necessary, online setup (like a website and iTunes), marketing, social media, how to shape your presentation for the best effect, and post-podcast editing using the open-source (and free) audio editor Audacity. This course is primarily an audio-based podcast; remote podcasting, as well as video podcasting, will be briefly covered, time permitting. Students will also have the opportunity to attend at least one live podcasting session.
              Dates: Saturday, June 16 – July 28 (no meeting July 7)
              Time: 10 AM – 12:30 PM
              Fee: $99


              Basic and Intermediate Painting – Acrylics – Ages 16+
              A favorite of professional illustrators who are always pressed for time, acrylics are far less expensive to work with than oils and more forgiving than watercolor. While all mediums have their limitations, even when properly handled, acrylics can be made to perform much like gouache or even oils. Advance your painting skills by learning the necessary steps and procedures to create a well-thought out and properly orchestrated acrylic painting. Open to ages 16 and up.
              Dates: Saturday, June 16 – July 21
              Time: 9 AM – 12 PM

              Basic and Intermediate Drawing – Ages 16+
              This drawing class is designed to teach the fundamentals of drawing, as well as to advance the more experienced student. The class will be divided, so as not to overwhelm the beginner or to bore the more advanced artist. The class will cover pencil, pen and ink. You’ll work in graphite, as well as charcoal pencils, then on to inks, from the static look of mechanical pens to good old-fashioned dip pens. Open to ages 16 and up.

              Adventure Travel to Europe for Beginners on a Budget
              Hear insights and best practices on how to travel on a small budget, prepare for 1-2 week trips, travel with a small group, travel solo, build a travel plan, find budget-friendly tours, find deals on airfare, minimize costs, accommodations (hotels, hostels, guest house), and many other considerations to help make sure you get the most out of your adventure!

              Introduction to Wire Wrapping and Jewelry Basics
              This class will cover precision in measurement, wire binding and other techniques. Learn how to work with an assortment of tools while wrapping a glass or gemstone cabochon, selecting from a variety of gemstones. Students will work with square and half-round wires to securely encase cabochons. Class size is limited to 10 students.
              Date: Saturday, June 16
              Time: 10 AM – 1 PM

              Basic Knife Skills Workshop
              Learn how to chop and dice safely while eating as you go. You’ll learn which knives you really need, what their purpose is, and how to use them properly. This is a great class for people with limited experience who are looking to improve their kitchen skills. Knife care, sharpening and honing, selection and manufacturing are also covered. Students bring their own chef knives. Light appetizers will be served.

              Organic Gardening and Composting
              In this class you’ll learn how to plant and maintain a healthy variety of organic fruits and vegetables to feed an active family. You will be taught watering requirements, as well as tips on how to compost the trimmings and other organic wastes generated from your garden.
              Date: Saturday, June 16
              Time: 10 AM – 12:30 PM
              Fee: $59


              Savvy Social Security Planning – What Boomers Need to Know to Maximize Retirement Income
              Social Security is far more complicated than most people realize. The decisions baby boomers make now can have a tremendous impact on the total amount of benefits they stand to receive over their lifetime. This workshop covers: 5 facts to consider when deciding when to apply for benefits, when it makes sense to delay benefits and when it does not, why you should always check your earnings record for accuracy, how to estimate your benefits, how to coordinate benefits with your spouse’s benefits and other sources of retirement income, and how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits.
